Are you planning to visit a surgery center in Northern Virginia? If so, it is important to be aware of the restrictions that are in place. Starting Monday, the health system announced that the use of masks will be optional at UVa Health Culpeper, UVa Health Haymarket Medical Center and UVa Health Prince William Medical Center; in outpatient clinics and imaging centers for outpatients; in outpatient surgery centers; and at UVa Health Caton Merchant House. Food or drink is not allowed into the clinical area. The University Hospital of the UVA Medical Center will return to the visiting policy in effect before the COVID-19 pandemic.
On April 18, at the UVa Medical Center, the University Hospital and clinical facilities in the Charlottesville area, the use of masks will be optional in all buildings and administrative locations, including research areas; in outpatient clinics and outpatient imaging centers; in the Ivy Road orthopedic center; in the Ivy Road orthopedic center; in the outpatient surgery centers; and in the West Complex of Jefferson Park Avenue, except for the shared space of the transplant and surgery clinic and the center of dialysis. UVA Health hospitals in Culpeper and Northern Virginia will also return to visiting policies in place before the COVID-19 pandemic. Because UVA Medical Center treats many patients with weakened immune systems who are at greater risk of contracting COVID-19 or other serious illnesses, there will be some differences in mask policies at Charlottesville University Hospital compared to those at other UVA Health centers. Following updated guidelines from the UVA Health infection prevention and control team, new policies on mask use and visits will take effect this month at UVA Medical Center and other centers in the Charlottesville area, as well as at UVA Health centers in Culpeper and Northern Virginia. Masks will continue to be mandatory in the University Hospital, the emergency department, transplant clinics, cancer clinics, infusion centers and dialysis centers. It is essential for visitors to always check with their local health system for any changes to their visiting policies.
